About the College of Music and Fine Arts
In the Jesuit tradition of providing a well-rounded education, Loyola’s College of Music and Fine Arts provides students with an opportunity to pursue both a strong foundation in the liberal arts and professional training in the performing and fine arts. In this fashion, students can study subjects such as history and philosophy along with graphic design, music therapy, performance, sculpture, and stagecraft. The College of Music and Fine Arts prides itself on the relationship between its faculty and students and its comprehensive array of opportunities for performances, exhibits, and ensembles which afford students the opportunity to present their work on a consistent basis. The low ratio of students to faculty enables a strong emphasis on individual student attention and individual instruction.
Distinguishing Features
Performance Opportunities
College of Music and Fine Arts students have ample performance opportunities both on campus with numerous ensembles and productions, and throughout New Orleans, a city known for its culture and rich heritage in the arts. New Orleans is a devoted theatre community with numerous opportunities for students to experience their craft, and a select number of internships are available at museums and galleries throughout the New Orleans area. In addition, opportunities exist for working with art curators. Students also have the opportunity to study abroad or tour in the United States, Central America, and Europe with the chorale, jazz band, orchestra, or wind ensemble. In addition, the Montage Performance Series provides opportunities for students to gain stage experience in the various ballets, operas, and operettas produced by the college’s opera and ballet departments.
Outstanding Facilities
The College facilities boast a wealth of resources. The Communications/Music Complex has outstanding facilities for students studying music, including rehearsal, practice, recording, and performance, including the Louis J. Roussel Performance Hall, a music library, a recording studio, a piano laboratory, and a state-of-the-art multi-media training center. The college also has a wealth of resources for students studying fine arts, including acting and design studios, a costume shop, a scenic shop, and two theatres. The art facilities in St. Mary’s Hall include painting and drawing studios, a fully equipped wood and metal shop for sculpture, a printmaking studio, a fully equipped darkroom and a state-of-the-art computer imaging lab with Silicon Graphics and multi-media capabilities.

Supporting the Jesuit goal of academic excellence is the College of Music and Fine Arts faculty, which has the highest of professional credentials: nationally acclaimed actors, artists, business leaders, composers, designers, educators, performers, scholars, music therapists, and theorists.

By audition and appointment, the College of Music and Fine Arts audition days are:

The Department of Visual Arts will be visiting with prospective students and their parents on Saturday, December 6, 2008, Saturday, January 24, 2009, and Saturday, February 28, 2009. The College of Music and Fine Arts must receive audition applications at least two weeks prior to the selected date.
